Counselling Clinician

Gavin Patterson, Contract ClinicianI am Registered Professional Counsellor, and a Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling. I have an extensive background spanning eight years in the helping profession. My journey began as an employment counsellor after completing my undergraduate degree at the University of Winnipeg. Since then, I’ve traversed diverse roles, including serving as an Addictions therapist, continually advancing my skills and knowledge in mental health. I am excited to be working alongside the team at Chatrath Counselling Centre while completing the final stages of my master’s in counselling psychology.

My approach to mental health and therapeutic services is rooted in an integrated approach. I blend Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and Brain Spotting (BSP), infusing elements of solution-focused and strength-based techniques into my practice. This multifaceted approach allows for a tailored, holistic experience in our therapeutic journey.

My professional journey has exposed me to a wide spectrum of experiences. I’ve worked with individuals navigating addiction, those healing from past trauma, and individuals managing challenges such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder. I’ve also worked with men facing mental health challenges, couples seeking reconciliation, and those working with issues around infidelity, insecurities, and relationship complexities.

For me, the heart of this profession lies in working with people. Each person has a unique story, and sometimes, we just need a safe space to express ourselves. My passion lies in exploring the uncomfortable, the new, and the aspects of ourselves we’re working to cultivate. It’s about building greater capacities to manage life’s challenges, developing resilient coping skills, and healing past wounds. This journey is about you and your story.
